The objectives for this Computing in Atmospheric Sciences Workshop 2005 (CAS2K5) are to exchange information between weather and climate computing centers from around the globe and to examine and discuss the role and utility of advanced technologies.

This workshop brings together an international group of specialists from the atmospheric and related geosciences to examine advances in the rapidly changing computing technology environment. Discussion topics will include:

  • Characterizations of the performance and capabilities of various supercomputing platforms on weather forecasting and earth system modeling applications
  • Plans and methodologies for exploiting the emerging cyberinfrastructure and eScience capabilities in the atmospheric and related sciences
  • Data management strategies and experiences as applied to the atmospheric sciences
  • Status of software required for next-generation earth system modeling environments
  • Progress reports and plans from national weather, climate, and research labs worldwide

The workshop will include presentations from key vendors.
