Multiresolution Methods in Computational Fluid Dynamics

ChrisMcKinlay

Abstract: The computational resources required for direct numerical simulations of Newtonian fluids scale poorly with Reynolds number. One method for efficiently allocating computational resources, proposed by Marie Farge in 2001, is to use separable wavelet bases and statistical compression schemes to reduce the size of static turbulence data and the time required to evolve solutions. We consider several wavelets and their effect on compression ratio and solution error.
