An invitation to San Jose

by Sam Milosevich

H ello! You're invited to participate in the 39th Cray User Group (CUG) meeting May 5-9, 1997, in San Jose, California. This will be an exciting, educational, and entertaining week for high performance computing (HPC) as we meet in the fabled Silicon Valley.

Come, join in the many opportunities--formal and informal--to exchange information! Share your ideas and questions with CUG members from other Silicon Graphics/Cray Research (SGI/CRI) HPC sites. See what answers come to you from your CUG colleagues and the many SGI/CRI technical professionals who participate in CUG conferences.

Your HPC experience and insight is an integral part of the value of a CUG conference. By leveraging the combined CUG conference, you have the chance to jump ahead--to take that next nonlinear step--to add unique value to your organization though HPC.

With this in mind, the CUG Program Committee is planning an agenda with the goal of offering opportunities for each person present. Here are some highlights of the program:

  • As usual, the conference will begin on Monday morning with a full schedule of useful tutorials that you will want to take advantage of.

  • General sessions will give you a chance to share general interest topics with a diverse audience of your HPC colleagues.

  • Specialized areas of technical interest will be offered through parallel sessions featuring speakers from CUG sites and from SGI/Cray Research whose topics have been reviewed and selected by the chairs of your various Special Interest Committees.

  • Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) sessions (spontaneously scheduled meetings of immediate interest) continue to be a popular way to bring together people with a common interest in specific issues. Rooms for BOFs may be scheduled at the conference.

  • Many other opportunities, including formal receptions and informal luncheons, will give you additional opportunities to maximize the value you gain from participating in the next CUG.

We sincerely believe that the Silicon Valley CUG conference can offer something you will find valuable. Nowhere else during 1997 will you have the chance to exchange so much information with your colleagues from other CUG sites and your collaborators from SGI/Cray Research!
