Last summer the CUG Office moved from its home at Silicon Graphics, Inc./Cray Research, Inc. (SGI/CRI) in
Eagan, Minnesota, to Fine Point Editorial Services (FPES) in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. FPES has been publishing the CUG Proceedings for about 12 years and has been providing information system support to CUG for about 10 years. Karen Winget and I own and operate FPES. Karen leads our editing and publishing efforts, while I lead the information systems and CUG Office efforts.
The CUG Office:
- Manages CUG's mailing lists and membership files
- Generates and mails invoices
- Maintains membership payment records
- Produces various CUG publications such as "What is CUG?," the
site/contact list, and the conference Proceedings
- Designs, produces, and distributes conference local arrangements
and program booklets
Soon we will start a new publishing project. We will stop printing the
Proceedings (and mailing it about three months after the conference) and start producing it on the World Wide Web. Thus, you will get conference papers and the information they can link to much faster. We will take
advantage of the web to publish in color and link individual papers to a
vastly increased knowledge base using hypertext. (Browse the CUG home page at www.cug.org
regularly for the latest news on this effort.)
Be sure to come see me
at the Silicon Valley CUG Office this May. I will be glad to tell you what
we are doing and would very much like to have your comments on how we can
maximize our use of internet techologies.

Well, gotta go now. The dog's scratchin' at the door; she needs to chase a
squirrel; maybe I'll join her.
