Australia and Southeast Asia
Cray users meet in Melbourne

rule

A meeting of Cray users was held in Melbourne, Australia, on 18 April 1996. This was the first meeting in the region since December 1994, and was the first meeting to include attendees from southeast Asia. The meeting was hosted by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Twenty-two people attended from eight Cray sites.

The day started with a session for systems administrators, which was notable for its lack of concerns with Cray Research software compared with earlier times. For most sites, storage management has become the biggest issue.

The following talks were given:

  • "CUG Barcelona Debrief"--Marek Michalewicz, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)

  • "T3E Launch"--William White, Cray Research, Inc. (CRI)

  • "Silicon Graphics/Cray Research Merger"--John Henderson, Cray Research Australia

  • "Ocean/Climate Modelling Activities at the Antarctic CRC in Tasmania"--Joerg-Olaf Wolff

  • "Cray Research Australia Report"--John Henderson, Cray Research Australia

  • "Establishing Computational Chemistry in the University of Malaya"--Rauzah Hashim, Department of Chemistry, University of Malaya

  • "Data Migration Facility (DMF) Tutorial"--Robert Bell, CSIRO, and Peter Edwards, Cray Research Australia
