Stuttgart '98

Grüß Gott! (The South-German greeeting) The Silicon Valley CUG '97 in San Jose, with its interesting and wonderful days in sunny California, now belongs to the past; we have already embarked for the next conference a year from now. In this article, we would like to draw your attention to CUG '98, which will be hosted jointly by the Computer Centre of the University of Stuttgart, debis Systemhaus, and Cray Germany. It will take place in Stuttgart, Germany, June 14-19, 1998. The conference site will be downtown Stuttgart, within walking distance to the attractive places of the city. We will do our best to present you with an interesting program that will certainly be worth your time. With regard to the social events, we only would like to mention that the "Night Out" already has been planned; we promise it will be a remarkable surprise to everyone! Come and meet the many people of interest to you ... come and visit beautiful Baden-Württemberg in the South of Germany in the early summertime. Stroll through the city of Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, surrounded by more hills than the seven of Rome. You will find interesting and beautiful museums, theaters, and estates to visit--and the chance to do some shopping in a modern city with exciting shops. Take a trip onboard the M/S Bertha Epple along the vineyards of the wonderful river Neckar on which Stuttgart is situated, and tour the famous old university towns Heidelberg and Tübingen not far away. See Lake Constance and the Black Forest, drive the Baroque Route of the Upper Swabia, visit places where so many famous people were born. And you will certainly enjoy our regional kitchen, in addition to that inspired by our French neighbors. You will find our famous wines to be a pleasure. Come see and feel the old culture of Europe. Many of you will get the opportunity to look up your ancestors, and perhaps you will also meet with some of your German families. Start your planning for Stuttgart CUG '98 right away (time passes so quickly)! And don't forget to check the CUG home page (www.cug.org) frequently to get the latest news.
