CUG Latin Users Group report

Latin users are active

by Philippe Martinez

Aabout 25 participants from the Latin region attended the Cray User Group conference in San Jose, California. Four among us brilliantly represented the Latin group by giving talks: Sergio Bernardi (CINECA), Eric Lebeau (Renault), Laurent Colombet (CEA CGCV) and Jean-Pierre Gregoire (EDF).

Since the Barcelona CUG, Latin attendees of each CUG have been producing a collective report in French. Each of them contributes a piece, which I combine with the others to provide an interesting document. I'm taking advantage of this issue of CUG.log to thank one more each of the contributors for their good work.

Incidentally, these reports are available at the Latin User Group page via the CUG Web site (see http://www.cug.org/CUG/Regional_Groups/Latin/latin.html), and have been sent to the CUG mailing list. SGI/Cray Research computer users who want to participate on this list can contact me directly.

The Latin User Group held a meeting in November 1996 that was quickly and very well organized by Alain Refloch. It was hosted by ONERA, an aeronautic company located in Chatillon, not far from Paris. There were about 50 attendees at this meeting, where several talks were presented:

  • Presentation of the ONERA company (Mr. Mescam)

  • Summary of the Charlotte CUG (Mr. Voury--IDRIS)

  • Installation of a T90 at CEA-CELV (Mrs. Charon)

  • The Origin 2000 (Mr. Multon--SGI)

  • PUCE: An X operator interface for a Cray (Mr. Beuraud--Meteo France)

  • The merger of UNICOS and IRIX (Mr. Chesnot--SGI/CRI)

  • Panel discussion around the room
The next meeting of the Latin User Group will be held in Autumn 1997. We are currently preparing it.
