Minneapolis hosts the last CUG of the century . . .
by Lynda Lester
CUG goes home: The 41st Cray User Group (CUG) conference was held in May 1999 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where in the 1970s and 1980s Seymour Cray and Cray Research first stunned the scientific community by engineering the fastest computers in the world. "End of an era . . . eve of a new millennium," the conference theme, seemed apropos as attendees felt the breath of history and looked forward to new changes in the world of high-performance computing.
