The Stuttgart meeting was fantastic! We had many excellent papers and a marvelous host site. But two changes overshadowed most of the transactions at the meeting: SGI's new leadership and the CUG reorganization.

SGI's new CEO, Rick Beluzzo, and the new vice president of high-end systems, Beau Vrolyk, both spoke of SGI's current and future commitment to high-performance systems and the scientific and technical marketplace. Morale at SGI's Eagan facilities will probably be a good barometer of their commitment to and potential for success in the high-performance market. I'll be watching this anxiously.

The intention of the CUG reorganization is to bring our structure into alignment with the future in terms of CUG's goals as well as SGI's. As a result of this meeting, I'll be stepping down as chair of the Performance and Evaluation SIG to lead the new Programming Environments "super" SIG. It's been a pleasure and I'm looking forward to the future of CUG!
