New Computer Services SIG report
SIG includes Operations and User Services Focus Groups . . .

As a result of the Special Interest Group (SIG) restructuring that occurred at the Stuttgart CUG, the new Computer Services "super" SIG now oversees the activities of the Operations Focus Group and the User Services Focus Group. The functions of these two focus groups are entirely complementary, which makes their combination quite appropriate. (For details on the restructuring, see "CUG SIGs get a facelift" and A guide to the new CUG SIGs.") Mike Brown (Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre, UK), previously the European deputy chair for the former Operations SIG, has agreed to take on the role of SIG chair under the new organization. Leslie Southern (Ohio Supercomputer Center, Columbus, Ohio, USA) has agreed to chair the User Services Focus Group and Brian Kucic (National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Champaign, Illinois, USA) has taken on the role of chair of the Operations Focus Group. Fran Pellegrino (Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center) remains as deputy chair of the Operations Focus Group and we shall we seeking a deputy for Leslie. Those interested should contact her directly. We were sad that Dan Drobnis (San Diego Supercomputing Center, California, USA) has stood down as chair of the Operations SIG; he has filled this position for many years and we shall miss him. Our thanks to Dan for all that he has done for the group and CUG. We wish him well. |
