First, and most important, let me offer my thanks and praise for the Stuttgart CUG Local Arrangements Committee under the exceptional leadership of Walter Wehinger. It was my privilege to work with Herr Wehinger and his team in preparation for the conference, so I can attest to the many things they did in advance that made the conference such a marvelous success.

For the first time, CUG used an online conference registration system, which was designed and built by Walter and his staff. It worked very well. The system uses the highly rated VeriSign network security software, ensuring protection of credit card transactions.

CUG Office services

The CUG Office:

  • Supports the CUG treasurer with financial reporting and banking services

  • Generates and mails invoices

  • Maintains membership records and provides record keeping, archiving, and publications services for the CUG secretary

  • Provides database, technical, administrative, and registration support for CUG conferences

  • Designs, produces, and distributes CUG publications (see below)

We now use two online, web-based systems: one for the submission of abstracts for conference presentations and the other, mentioned above, for conference registration. The abstract submission system worked well for the Stuttgart conference and is now the required system for the submission of all abstracts. The conference registration system also worked well and is available for future conferences to use.

CUG publications

The CUG Office produces CUG conference programs, brochures, and the CUG CD-ROM. The CD-ROM contains conference Proceedings, the conference attendee list, the CUG Directory of User-submitted Software (CUGDUS), CUG membership forms, the site/contact list, and the CUG Handbook.

Here is a list of publications available from the CUG Office:

  • Spring 1998 Proceedings (CD-ROM) ... $20
  • Spring 1995-Spring 1997 Proceedings (CD-ROM) ... $20
  • Spring 1997 Proceedings, San Jose (printed) ... $40
  • Fall 1996 Proceedings, North Carolina (printed) ... $40
  • Spring 1996 Proceedings, Barcelona (printed)
  • Fall 1995 Proceedings, Alaska (printed) ... $40
  • "What is CUG?" brochure (printed) ... free

I very much enjoy being of service to the Cray User Group and look forward to seeing you in Minneapolis.
