Bruno Loepfe,
regional director,
Europe

by Bruno Loepfe

Please allow me to introduce myself: my name is Bruno Loepfe (the "oe" is pronounced as an umlaut). I am 42 years old and I am the systems manager of supercomputers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zuerich, Switzerland (site code ETHZ).

ETHZ currently has two J90s; two more will arrive within the next few months. We plan to upgrade to SV1s by the end of 1998.

We are interested in the clustering of supercomputers. "SuperCluster J90" was a cooperation project between SGI/Cray Research and ETHZ that ended in November 1997. I presented the project in two CUG papers: one in Barcelona and one in San Jose. We plan to launch a new cooperation project in the same area later this year.

As a member of the CUG Board of Directors, in addition to other duties assigned to me by the board, I intend to concentrate on the following areas:

  • Coordinating the local subgroups of CUG within Europe (should they need coordination or other services from CUG)

  • Contacting sites that may qualify as CUG members, but which have not yet joined the organization

  • Contacting CUG member sites that are currently inactive

My address is:

Email: loepfe@sd.id.ethz.ch

I hope to hear from you !
