'Calculating Engines' was the official theme of CUG '98 in Stuttgart, Germany, but the driving force was change: turnover in SGI leadership, reorganization within CUG, redefinition of the vendor/user relationship, and the presence of new hardware and software. Transition was also reflected during the CUG Night Out at the Mercedes-Benz Museum, where CUG attendees saw another set of "engines of change."
