Welcome to the SCD Roadmap Atlas
On this site we present a broadly defined divisional vision for high-performance
computing in the next two to five years. Each of the roadmaps below provides a
high-level assessment of activities and objectives the division will pursue as
we make our collective way into the next century. These roadmaps provide both
an overview and an outline of where we hope to invest our time and resources to
advance scientific computing for the atmospheric and related sciences.

SCD is working with the NCAR science divisions to issue an
RFP to acquire an Advanced Research Computing System (ARCS).

Providing optimal mass storage services and an enhanced Web interface
to Mass Storage System data.

Constructing a robust, reliable, and maintainable network to
support UCAR's goals for the advancement of science, technology, and

Enabling wide-area access, manipulation, analysis, and visualization
of the most complex data sets in the earth sciences.

SCD will provide "clean", up-to-date and accurate
data for use by the atmospheric and related science communities.

Strengthening SCD's model-related research activities and expanding SCD's
research into data-related activities. |

Providing a customizable, collaborative computational environment
for users.

Providing a distributed computing environment designed for scalability,
standardization, heterogeneous support, security, and ease-of-use,

Leveraging SCD's role in the community to support activities, programs,
and collaborative research projects that enhance education at all levels.

SCD will provide targeted help via consulting, training, outreach,
education and information services.

Providing a high performance, robust, secure, flexible Web service
for UCAR
