On November 8, 1999, SCD installed a Compaq ES40 cluster (named "prospect" after a zinc, lead, and silver mine in central Colorado).
This distributed shared-memory system had eight nodes (each with four CPUs and four gigabytes of memory), and a peak performance rate of 32 gigaflops.
Due to hardware and operating system damage sustained on January 11, 2002, prospect was decommissioned on February 19, 2002.
